1. How did you get into blogging?
In July of 2009 my wife and I enrolled in a debt management program with CareOne Debt Relief Services with $109,000 of credit card debt. In early 2010 I responded to a post in their online community forum looking for customers to share their experiences through blog posts. My first customer blog post went live in March of 2010.
Since then I?ve also joined the writing teams at Enemy of Debt and My Personal Finance Journey.
2. Where do you get your ideas?
I want to provide posts that my readers can relate to, and apply to their daily lives. Therefore, the vast majority of my posts are based upon the real life experiences of myself and my family.
3. What makes your writing unique?
It?s not just about me. It?s about the experiences of my family (including my wife, son and daughter), and our interactions with each other as we fight our way out of debt.
The neat thing is that they embrace the idea of being post material. I commonly hear my ten year old daughter tell me, ?You could write about that.? Also, my wife attended both Fincon11 and Fincon12 with me, and when asked if she writes as well, her response is, ?No, I?m his material.?
4. What is your biggest blogging accomplishment or your proudest blogging moment?
Oooh, just one? I have three that I?d really like to share if you don?t mind.
? When Enemy of Debt was announced as the winner of the 2012 Best Debt Blog Plutus award. I loved sharing that moment with my friend Brad Chaffee and the rest of the members of TeamEOD that were at Fincon12.
? Having the honor of being a speaker at Fincon12 and sharing with my fellow bloggers how I found my blogging identity.
? Being invited to CareOne?s headquarters in Maryland for a company-wide appreciation event where I had the opportunity to talk with many employees. I left Maryland extremely proud to be writing for a company so passionate about helping people change their lives by not only eliminating their debt, but developing the skills to keep them out of debt.
5. What opportunities have opened up to you because of your blogging?
Becoming a blogger has allowed me to rediscover my love for writing which I had lost touch with after high school, and develop a part-time freelance writing career. I enjoy sharing my experiences with the hope that it will be beneficial for others who are struggling with debt.
I?ve had interviews featured on MSN Money and The Washington Post. I?ve had a post picked up by The Globe and Mail, and have been a guest on Gerri Detweiler?s Talk Credit radio program. I have also had the privilege of visiting CareOne?s headquarters in Maryland twice. Once to be a part of a rebranding effort, and once to be part of the appreciation celebration mentioned earlier. They were both once in a lifetime experiences that I will never forget.
6. How do you let people know that your blog is out there?
I?m very active on Twitter as @DebtChronicles. I share my posts there, as well as posts I like from other blogs I read. I love interacting with people, so if you haven?t connected with me there yet, drop me a tweet and say, ?Hi!?
7. Do you have a favorite blog to read?
Oh my, there are so many great blogs! Again, I have to name a couple.

8. Why do you attend FinCon?
I?ve attended both FinCons for a couple of reasons:
First, it allows bloggers to connect on a more personal level. Through twitter interactions as well as reading each other?s posts, bloggers get to know each other pretty well. However there?s nothing like spending time with someone in person. The neatest thing about networking at FinCon is that you always meet someone that you never expected to connect with.
Second, there?s a wealth of great information to be learned. Each blogger has something unique to bring to the table. The personal finance blogging family is very unique in that there isn?t any sense of competition between us. We?re all more than willing to share how we do what we do, to help others become more successful.
