Parenting columnist targeted by Ky. board sues

A nationally syndicated parenting columnist is filing a lawsuit against Kentucky regulators who have told him his column amounts to the illegal practice of psychology in the state.

Longtime newspaper columnist John Rosemond got a latter in May from Kentucky's state psychology board that essentially ordered him to stop writing Q-and-A format advice columns and to stop calling himself a psychologist because he's not licensed in Kentucky.

Rosemond, an author of 11 books who has a master's degree in psychology from Western Illinois and is licensed as a psychologist in North Carolina, is suing in federal court in Kentucky to block the state from censoring his column.

The 65-year-old Rosemond is represented by the Virginia-based Institute for Justice, which opposes excessive occupational licensing.

Officials with the Kentucky board did not respond to calls seeking comment.
